Learn the
Route Planner

Everything from adding your first road to sharing routes with colleagues, optimising stop order, and fine-tuning individual pins.

Part 1 The Basics

Add a road
Type a road name into the input at the top of the sidebar and tap Add Road. You can type any name — official street names work best because they feed into the geocoder when you add house numbers, but informal names (like "Depot" or "Industrial Park") are fine for manual-only use.

An autocomplete dropdown will suggest matching street names from OpenStreetMap as you type. Use the ↑ ↓ arrow keys to navigate it, or just tap a suggestion.

Add house numbers
Each road has an input row at the bottom of its card. Type a house number (or any label) and tap + Add or press Enter.

The app will geocode "{number} {road name}" automatically and place a numbered pin on the map. While it's loading you'll see a spinner — the pin appears once the address is found.

⚠️If a house number isn't found, a ⚠ warning icon appears. The address still stays in the list — you can move its pin manually (see Pin Options in Part 2).

Reorder roads and stops
Every road group and every house number can be reordered in two ways:

↑ ↓ buttons — tap the arrows on any road header or house row to move it one position up or down.

Drag handles ⠿ — on desktop, grab the handle on the left of any row and drag it to a new position. Works for both road groups and individual house numbers.

The ↕ reverse button on a road header flips the order of all house numbers in that group — handy after using Optimise.

Calculate a route
Once you have at least two geocoded stops, the Calculate Route button activates. Tap it to draw a blue route line through all stops in the order they appear in the list. Distance and estimated driving time appear in the stats bar at the top of the sidebar.

💡The route is calculated in list order — it won't be re-optimised automatically. Use the ⚡ Optimize button if you want the app to find the fastest order.

Daily vs Sometimes
Each house number has a small toggle badge that switches between ✓ Daily and ~ Sometimes. This is purely a label for your own reference — it doesn't affect routing.

Use it to mark addresses you only deliver to on certain days. In the Check view (Part 1 Step 6) these are colour-coded so you can instantly see which stops need attention today.

The Strip sometimes action in the Check view removes all ~ Sometimes stops in one tap, leaving only Daily ones.

The Check view
Tap the ✅ Check tab to switch views. This collapses all roads into a searchable alphabetical list grouped by street name. Each street shows a count of daily and sometimes stops.

Tap any street to expand it and see clickable pills for every house number. Tap a pill to toggle its daily/sometimes status. Tap × next to a pill to remove that stop. You can also type in the add house input at the bottom of each expanded street.

Part 2 Advanced Usage

Adding the same road multiple times
The app deliberately allows the same road name to appear more than once in the list. This is intentional — it lets you manually split a long road into segments and control when each segment is visited.

For example, if High Street runs from house 1 to house 80 and you want to deliver the first half before a loop through side streets and the second half on the way back, add High Street twice — once with houses 1–40, once with 41–80. Place them where you need them in the list.

In the Check view the two groups will merge into one street entry (since they have the same name and city), showing all house numbers together. The route view keeps them separate for ordering purposes.

⚠️Duplicate detection prevents adding the exact same house number to two groups on the same road in the same city. Different house numbers across duplicated roads are always fine.

Pin options — move, entry point, note
Tap the 📌 button on any house row to open the pin options menu. There are three tools:

Once any of these are set, small coloured dots appear next to the 📌 button: a cyan dot means a route entry point is saved, an orange dot means a note exists. All three settings are saved with the route and survive copy/paste and cloud share.
💡Route Entry Point is the most powerful tool for fixing OSRM routing mistakes. If the app keeps routing you up Road A when the actual driveway is off Road B, place the cyan dot on Road B and the router will approach from there instead.

Optimise stop order
Tap ⚡ Optimize in the action bar. You'll be asked for a start point and end point — type an address and tap Locate to geocode it, or tick Same as start if you're doing a round trip.

The app uses OSRM's trip solver to find the fastest order to visit all stops between those two points, then groups consecutive stops on the same road and sorts them in the direction you'll be travelling along the road.

The result replaces your current list order. Use ↑ ↓ or drag handles to fine-tune afterwards, or tap on any road to reverse that road's order.
⚠️Using the same start and end point produces significantly better results because OSRM's TSP solver is stronger for round-trip (circular) routes than for open-path routes. If your real route has different start/end, consider running as same-point and manually rotating the sequence to your preferred exit point.

Route progress slider
After calculating a route, a slider bar appears along the bottom of the map. Drag it to scrub through the route — the line is drawn in three layers:

Ghost (22% opacity) — the full route, always visible as a faint guide.
History (60%) — the portion already "passed".
Hot tail (100%) — the leading 3% of route length at full brightness.

The %/km toggle button on the right of the slider switches the label between percentage of total route and real distance. In km mode the hot tail is always the last 1 km of shown route rather than 3% — useful on very long routes.

Sharing and loading routes
Tap ☁ Share to upload your route to the server. Give it a memorable name and tap Upload. You'll get an 8-character share code:

Anyone who knows this code can tap ☁ Load, enter the code, and get an exact copy of your route — all stops, pin positions, notes, entry points, and daily/sometimes tags included.

Routes are also searchable by name — so give yours a name your colleagues will recognise (Tuesday Zone 3, North Run Dec, etc.). Anyone can search for it by name in the Load dialog without needing the code.
🔒Routes are public — anyone who guesses or knows your code or name can load them. Don't include sensitive personal information in route names or notes. Routes auto-delete after 90 days of not being loaded — every time anyone loads a route, its 90-day timer resets from that moment.
💡Share codes are random 8-character strings — there are 218 trillion possible codes, so guessing one by brute force is not realistic. But short, memorable names increase discoverability, so use distinctive names rather than common words.

Copy and Paste (offline backup)
The Copy and Paste buttons in the action bar let you back up and restore routes without a server — the route is exported as a JSON text string you can save anywhere (notes app, email, text file).

On desktop, Copy writes directly to the clipboard. On mobile, a modal opens with the text so you can long-press and copy it manually.

Paste works in reverse — on desktop it reads from the clipboard directly; on mobile a text box opens where you can long-press and paste. Pasting replaces the current route, so save first if needed.
💡Copy/Paste is also useful for merging routes — copy one route, save it, load a second route, then paste stops from the first into it. Each paste replaces the whole list, so plan accordingly.
